I felt the lack of simple things today,
of animating when I tell them aloud to you.
It was a breezy sunny spring afternoon and the poets
told this day like an abacus bead,
I buried my face in sun-clean towels
the day captured in the cotton.

Oh, how lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe couplet structure is perfect for this short poem. The first and third stanzas are powerful, especially the first. Its opening verse creates a nice tension between the visceral and existential nature of human existence. Simply a wonderful poem.
ReplyDeleteEmmett, Sophia, thank you for taking time to read my poem and your kind comments.
